In November, Bethel Park High School, Independence Middle School, and Neil Armstrong Middle School each recognized Children's Grief Awareness Day. Students and staff wore blue to acknowledge those we have lost.
Also, a pair of lit remembrance trees have been placed in BPHS’s main lobby, while IMS and NAMS put their trees in their respective cafeterias.
Students and staff also hug commemorative paper butterflies on their branches, the universal symbol of hope and healing, with the names of their lost loved ones. The paper butterflies are adjacent to the remembrance trees and will remain in the lobby for the rest of the school year.
Children’s Grief Awareness Day is designed to help us all become more aware of the needs of grieving children and the benefits they obtain through the support of others.
